Beschreibung

Forged in the fires of Austin, Texas’ diverse live music scene, Jack Burton has emerged a powerful and beloved singer and songwriter. Raised in a small farming community just outside of Austin, Jack cultivated a deep affinity for the music and culture of the southern United States. His first experiences with singing and performing came at an early age in his hometown church choir and began his love affair with gospel and soul music. At age 11 he was given a drum set and dove headlong into the sweaty teen garage band trappings of 80s decadence and 90s angst. In the following years, he continued to sing in church and further expanded his musical tastes while performing and DJ-ing in the hip-hop group of his oldest brother. But it was not until after high school that he bought an old second-hand guitar and started writing his own music and teaching himself how to play.

In 2011, after several years of honing his craft, Jack released his first EP. “I Think You Know” delivers the raw soulful power of Jack’s voice and deep pocket grooves of his stellar band.

His sophomore release, 2013’s “Soul” EP, is an earthy and uplifting mix of originals and gospel covers, loaded with heart and greasy southern grit. The album’s compelling vocals, swampy rhythms, and a seemingly endless supply of hooks and dirty guitar riffs caught the attention of John Aielli, famed radio host at KUT, Austin’s historic National Public Radio station.

“WHAT A VOICE! I EXPECT BIG THINGS FROM THIS YOUNG MAN!”

In 2014, Jack’s dynamic 9-piece Funk/Soul band, Jack Burton Trio, garnered a spot in the Austin Music Awards’ Top 10 live performing bands in the Blues/Soul category. This growing recognition led to opportunities to open for both local legends and national touring acts such as Knower, Cory Morrow, Magna Carda, Shinyribs, Mingo Fishtrap, and four-time Grammy® Award-winning multi-platinum band Third Day. From intimate solo shows in Austin’s finest listening rooms, to high-energy full band concerts, Jack is truly enjoying the privilege of making music.

Inspired by the triumphs and challenges of making music and traveling, Jack and his wife and muse, Maja, have been busy writing new material that aims to shine a little light into the dark corners of personal struggle, the world’s troubles, love, acceptance, and experiences of life as wandering musicians. Infusing thought-provoking lyrics with his penetrating voice, Jack’s new project is a raw and soulful blend of gritty Alternative Blues and toe-tapping front porch Folk Rock.
